Marks & Spencer

Now it has been said that Marks & Spencer are a laggard in the industry however I think it is important to include this television advert in my research as it shows how the trend is hitting all markets. I was also interested in the new celebrity endorsement M&S have, Lisa Snowdon, VV Brown and Danni Minogue!

Anthropologie

Today's visit to Anthropologie on Regents Street was a delightful surprise including a large model boat as a display area and boat snaps as decor.

Beyond Retro

This old anchor and helm is on display at the entrance of Beyond Retro in Great Marlborough Street, London (West End).

River Island

Topshop

I visited Topshop yesterday where I spotted these two garments, the first was a sailor like top which was almost uniform like with the collor, along with this little rope edged cardigan detailed with gold anchor buttons.

The Olive Branch

On a recent shopping trip to the Olive Branch store in Billericay, Essex I found a bundle of little treasures which had hints of the nautical theme. There were canvas paintings of boats that had quirky captions such as Ahoy! and cushions with anchor design beach huts.

Nicole Farhi

I noticed this necklace when visiting the Nicole Farhi store back in February, which also came in the colour red (typical nautical colours). I felt this style necklace reminded me of the chain of an anchor.

Chanel Cruise Collection 09/10

The nautical trend is also visible in Chanel's cruise collection this year in footwear and the sailor uniform inspired garments.

Louis Vuitton Resort 2010 Collection

On the 19th February I visited the Louis Vuitton store in Mayfair where I found a few accessories which had a nautical theme. For example I saw the belt above which ties with rope and red/ blue bangles, also striped with a rope pattern.

Yacht Sale

This post is a little bit of a catch up. Back on the 3rd March I took a visit to Mayfair and on the corner of Dover Street is a company called 'Camper & Nicholsons' who were advertising a yacht sale. In every window around the building was a model of a boat/yacht which is very good visual stimulation for my project. The yacht sale highly links to the cruise collection, top designers showcase in between the winter to spring months when the wealthy take their yachts or go on a cruise somewhere warm to escape the cold.

Outside In

A recent visit to see a good friend resulted in taking pictures of her interior. Located in Leigh-on-sea, Holly's mother brings the sea views into her home with boat models scattered around the living area.

How to sail...

To begin my research on the nautical trend I headed to Leigh Broadway, Leigh-on-Sea to see what kinds of things they were selling in the stores which related to the trend. In the window of Sue Ryder Care charity shop there was a wide selection of books on how to sail, a visual book on sailing boats and even a book on sailing written in which appeared to be French. C'est Super!
